"The continental collision between India and Eurasia to the light of the recent passive source seismic experiments in Tibet"

que impartirá, el Dr. Yun Chen del Solid Geophysics in the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in Beijing.

"Seismic Wave Propagation and Imaging of the Earth’s Crust and Upper Mantle"

Talk Topic
The youngest and arguably most spectacular of all the continent-continent collisional belts on Earth is the Himalayan-Tibetan orogeny. It is part of the greater Himalayan-Alpine system that extends from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to the Sumatra arc of Indonesia in the east over a distance of more than 7000 km. For a better understanding of key issues of the continental collision between India and Eurasia, many geophysical projects have been performed in Tibet and surrounding areas in the last decades. In this talk we focus on the current state of geophysical survey in Tibet, the passive-source seismic experiments carried out by the working group of the speaker, and the new results concerning the geodynamic process of continental collision achieved in recent years.
